User's Weight & Body Dimensions

Size

Our range of bariatric aids are available in a range of sizes, including varied seat widths, depths, and heights. It is important that the user’s needs including their body size and positioning needs are considered when selecting a suitable option.

Other considerations relate to your specific needs and the environment in which the product will be used:

  • Intended use- Consider what the individual is having difficulty with and what the intended use will be of the product. Consider the use’s needs, their abilities/strengths (physical and cognitive), their goals, and barriers.”
  • Level of support required- Consider the level of support required and the user’s mobility e.g. when selecting a bariatric wheelchair, will the user be propelling themselves or require a carer to push them? Consider the individual’s transfer needs.
  • Environment- Where will the equipment be used?. Consider if the equipment will fit the space it will be used in, if there is space to operate the equipment, if there is enough clearance with other equipment, and where the item will be stored. Consider if the person can safely transfer using the equipment, if the equipment is compatible with other equipment in place, if the equipment will be used indoors or outdoors, if the equipment will fit through doorways etc.
  • Transportation: does the individual need to transport the product on a regular basis in a vehicle? Does the equipment fold or is a ramp required to safely transport the product in/out of a vehicle? Does the equipment require two people to safely lift it into the car due to the weight of the product?
  • Accessories- Does the user require any additional supports or accessories?
  • Positioning- Does the user have any specific seating or positioning requirements?
